TWENTY Beaver Scouts from Hereford are this month (March, 2015) well on their way to achieving their Global Challenge Badge thanks to a donation from a plant nursery in the city.
Wyevale Nurseries just off Kings Acre Road donated plants, compost and pots to the 22nd Hereford Beavers so they could make a potted plant gift for their mums for Mother’s Day.
Steve Faulds, Beaver Leader at the 22nd Hereford Beavers, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wyevale Nurseries for their donation.
“This activity was one of the criteria for the Beavers to gain their Global Challenge Badge. Its one step towards them gaining their Chief Scout Bronze Award, which is the highest award a Beaver can receive. It can only be awarded once all six challenge badges are achieved as well as many other activity badges.
“The young Beavers all enjoyed the gardening activity and their mums were delighted with their gifts.”
The 22nd Hereford Beavers are based at the Community Centre on Franks Avenue on Stirling Estate. Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family with an age range of five and three quarters to eight-years-old.
Their activities are based around making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories and learning how to be safe. All of this is done with fun in mind.

Wyevale Nurseries is one of the largest family-run wholesale nurseries in the UK. It was established in 1928 by Harry Williamson, a horticulturist and entrepreneur. It became the company it is today under the leadership of his son, Peter, who sadly passed away in 2011.
The Williamsons’ saw the opportunity to sell their product to an undeveloped retail market, creating one of the first garden centres, followed by a chain. In 1987, the retail side needed to expand and the 19 garden centres were sold as a PLC.
The family then turned its focus to Wyevale Nurseries Ltd. It continues to be a family-run business with ownership and joint chairmanship currently being held by the third generation, Heather and Simeon Williamson, with plans for the fourth generation to takeover in the future.
Wyevale Nurseries has a significant product range and is regularly introducing new plants. It offers a large variety of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants to garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners.
