Gardena Unveils Design for RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden

Leading gardening brand, GARDENA, today unveils its brand trade stand garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022, in partnership with leading eco-designer and warrior on waste, Lynne Lambourne.

Creating a completely unique experience for the world’s most famous five-day flower event, GARDENA and Lambourne’s garden located at stand no. PW246a at the show, is centred around the theme of ‘rewilding’ – nature taking back control over the things that have done to harm the planet. With a strong emphasis on reconnecting people with nature and designing wildlife-friendly gardens, the design aims to make attendees rethink the way they have been living and guide their thought process from climate crisis to climate-conscious.

Using wildflowers and salvaged, recycled, or repurposed materials only, the sustainable garden aims to shift thinking away from manicured gardens and towards naturalistic planting in order to encourage wildlife and supporting eco-systems and biodiversity at home.

Working in reverse to most designers, Lambourne designed the RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden around what she could salvage or find to repurpose, ensuring the impact on the planet was minimal while providing a striking end result. Using suppliers such as local charities that change people’s lives meant the garden could have a purpose in the local community too.

The display comes as GARDENA announces its 2022 ReTh!nk pledge, which is built on the foundation of the three circular R’s: Reduce, Repair, Recycle, and how passionate gardeners can contribute to a healthy ecosystem and conserve more water. The pledge features heavily in the GARDENA trade stand garden alongside the brand’s new EcoLine range of watering products and hand-held tools, all made from at least 65% recycled consumer waste materials without compromising on quality, high durability, attractive design, and ease of use.

Speaking about the garden, Taryn Griesse, in trade marketing manager at GARDENA said: “So much hard work and attention to detail has gone into our display at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and we are so thankful to have Lynne on board to help us bring our brand values and DNA to life. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do as we make positive steps towards a better planet, so working with Lynne for 2022 was a no-brainer for us. We can’t wait for everyone to see in person what sustainable magic she has created.”

Talking about her design, Lynne Lambourne added: “I believe that sustainability is not an option that we can choose to include in our everyday lives, but a necessity. We all have the power to make small changes and together these small changes will amount to a big, shared impact. Many of us have gardens at home, therefore, have a space where we can implement some of the changes that are needed to help reduce climate change and encourage sustainability. For example, if we all planted a medium-sized tree and it grew to maturity, that would store enough carbon equivalent to drive you more than 11 times around the planet!

“I am very lucky to be working with GARDENA who understand how important this is and have allowed me to produce something so creative and unique on their behalf. As a brand, they are working hard and support my values in wanting to help gardeners take the pledge to ReTh!nk the way they garden. I hope my garden inspires others to choose greener options, to think twice before just buying new, and also think again about the purpose of their garden and how they can become the change they want to see in the planet – literally in their own back garden.”

After the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the GARDENA brand garden will be repurposed, providing some of the features to the Warriors on Waste garden, which offers bootcamps to teach children about sustainability and taking better care of the planet, as well as to local schools. The plants will be resold to raise money for the Ways and Means Trust, a charity that supports adults with learning or physical disabilities or poor mental health through gardening.

Featuring in the brand garden, GARDENA’S AquaBloom Solar-Powered Automatic Irrigation System has been highly commended by the judging panel in the RHS Chelsea Sustainable Gardening Product of the Year 2022 competition.
