New range of insect products gives children the bug for nature

Wildlife World, the award-winning manufacturer of unique and sustainable wildlife products, has launched a new range of affordable insect products designed specifically for children aged 5-12 years.
The MiniBugs insect range is a collection of interactive, fun and educational products that provide fully functioning wildlife habitats to attract beneficial insects to the garden, aiding children?s learning whilst also enabling plant pollination and pest control.

Ideal for use in school or home gardens, the MiniBugs insect range provides habitats that have become harder to find in modern gardens.
Three key products make up the range: the Bug Box, Solitary Bee House and Ladybird Log. Each is constructed from solid, durable and sustainable FSC timber and comes complete with a colourful 16-page insect project book, a valuable and engaging learning resource for any budding entomologist.

The key features of each of the MiniBugs products are as follows:

MiniBug Bug Box (trade price: £4.95; RRP £10.99)

A natural dual-chamber habitat that provides an ideal overwinter environment for insects like ladybirds, which are natural predators of plant-eating insects.

Over the summer months, it?s a perfect home and nest site for solitary bees (non-aggressive garden pollinators) and other beneficial insects, including ladybirds and lacewings.

Can be hung from trees, pergolas, hanging brackets or near ponds and scented plants. Alternatively, it can be positioned on the ground.

Offering a variety of potential habitats, the lower chamber is made of solid bored timber. Canes and colourful straws are provided to fill the top chamber, or it can be packed with stems from the garden.

MiniBug Solitary Bee House (trade price: £4.95; RRP £10.99)

A natural habitat for non-swarming solitary bees, which are gregarious and safe around children and pets.

Holes in the wood naturally attract non-swarming bees, such as the Red Mason bee, and are used as valuable nest sites.

Interactive removable cell trays allow the Solitary Bee House to be dismantled and rebuilt. Children can watch the bees finishing their nests with mud or leaf sections.

MiniBug Ladybird Log (trade price: £4.95; RRP £10.99)

A natural habitat for ladybirds and other beneficial insects, including lacewings, woodlice and earwigs.

Features a hollow central chamber that can be filled with natural materials to provide insulation and security.

Intersecting the central chamber are multiple holes drilled into the log at an upward angle. These allow the insects to reach the insulated and safe inner chamber.

Ladybird food/attractant can be used with the Ladybird Log. This product can also be used to release larvae with an accompanying food source.

Speaking about the new MiniBugs product range, Norman Sellers, founder and managing director of Wildlife World, said: ?We are delighted to bring out a range exclusively aimed at children. The sooner young people get interested and involved with wildlife, the better it will be for their learning and the environment in which they live. We are confident that these products will be a key seller for retailers, particularly in the run up to summertime and the school holidays.?
