Mr Fothergill’s Sponsors Local Boys’ Football Team

Mr Fothergill’s has announced it is joining companies such as Emirates, Chevrolet and Standard Chartered by sponsoring a football team. The Suffolk seedsman has not, however, looked to a Premier League side, but to its local Exning United Under-10s. The village of Exning is close to Newmarket, and is believed to have been the capital of the ancient Iceni tribe and their fearsome Queen Boadicea.

Coached by Mr Fothergill’s export sales executive Matt Turner, the boys in the team are mainly from Exning Primary School with two coming from Newmarket. Several have been invited to training sessions with professional clubs such as Norwich City, Ipswich Town and Cambridge United.

Three of the nine year old players, Ben Houghton, Ben Marriott and Connor Todd, recently visited Mr Fothergill’s site to present  joint managing director John Fothergill with a framed shirt as a ‘thank you’ for sponsoring this season’s new shirts. The children were also taken on a tour of the premises, learning the processes involved in packeting seed, despatching to retailers and shipping to overseas customers.

The Exning United Under-10s’ new season kicks off on Saturday 19 September at home to Chesterton Eagles.
