Garden tools and technology manufacturer Gardena has announced that it will debut its new smart system at RHS Chelsea this year – demonstrating how technology can simplify life in the garden and give more freedom to the passionate gardener. The system combines watering and lawncare within one platform.
Gardena will be demonstrating its smart system in a newly designed fresh garden as well as hosting a stand showcasing its range of watering, tree and shrub care, and soil cultivation tools.
Designed by British landscape architect John Gale, this year’s garden has been inspired by Gardena’s new smart system, which allows users to manage their gardens at the touch of a button through a smartphone app, anywhere and at any time.
The garden intends to combine the “smart elements” of the system such as Water Control; which ensures optimum water management and gives users the flexibility to adapt watering times according to personal preference. Alongside this, the garden will also include Gardena’s smart Sensor, which acts as the local weather station in the garden, providing an indication of soil humidity, temperature and light intensity, and it supplies all important information to the Gardena smart App. In conjunction with this, it will also showcase Gardena’s robotic lawn mower – the smart SILENO, which is fully automated, reliable and stripe-free to leave a perfectly maintained carpet of lawn. It also allows for customisable mowing times via the smart App. Thanks to its rear-wheel drive, it is even able to cope with uneven ground and inclines of up to 35%.
Commenting on the inspiration behind his design, Gale said: “Technology has become an integral part of our modern lives and it is a natural progression that labour saving automation and the convenience of wireless control are now available for the garden. Gardena’s smart system is perfect for both the keen gardeners and for those who just want a lush garden with minimal effort. Having set up the system in my own garden for the last few months, whilst designing the Gardena Smart Garden for RHS Chelsea Flower Show, I now couldn’t be without it.”
