Cornish timber merchant Duchy Timber has taken delivery of a cutting-edge machine that will increase its fence panel production by 500% to help it meet growing UK demand.
The automated feather-edged panel machine, which has arrived on site at its sawmill in Lostwithiel, will increase production from 50 fencing panels a day to 300 a day and, according to the company, will improve the quality of each fence panel.
It is part of an on-going programme of investment at the Cornish timber merchant since it was acquired by South-Wales based Premier Forest Group, one of the UK’s largest timber suppliers, earlier this year.
The machine, made by Young Black, has an automated hydraulic system which speeds up the production and cuts the feather-edge of the panels thicker than an average fence panel to ensure they maintain the high quality product that Duchy Timber is known for. The company prides itself on using three times more wood than usual in its garden furniture, fencing, decking and gates, and the new machine now allows a thicker cut of the wood for improved strength and durability.

Everything we produce is made to last. The arrival of the machine means we can significantly increase production to meet the growing UK-wide demand for better quality fencing.”
Founded in 1958, Duchy Timber uses FSC certified wood sourced from within 60 miles of its sawmill in Lostwithiel and plants three trees for every tree used to ensure its sustainability. It offers a range of garden furniture, accessories, fencing, decking, gates and flooring from its sawmill outlet in Lostwithiel. It will be launching its first online store soon to supply across the UK.
